I decided this is a good way to get some frustration out. I just had an experience that I can't seem to let go tonight. So I thought maybe if I tell my story here I will feel better. So, here goes.....
I was out running 2o different errands this afternoon, and my last stop was Smith's Marketplace. When I pulled into the parking lot, it was super busy and I was trying to work my way around everyone to find a parking spot. I admit I was in a bit of a hurry because of hungry, cranky kids, so I wasn't doing my best driving. I started to turn a corner when I realized there wasn't enough room for two ways of traffic, and there was already a car coming towards me, so I backed up and let the car go by.
As the car got closer, I noticed the lady in the car staring me down and her mouth was moving with what I interpreted as very bad cuss words. She then proceeded to flip me off rather aggressively and held it like that the whole time she passed, which was very slowly. I was shocked! This was a lady probably in her late 50's. I have seen this behavior in young boys, but not grown women. That is probably why I was so upset by it. I pulled into my parking spot and noticed she parked just a few cars down. Now let me say, I am a VERY SHY person and usually just keep to myself, but for some reason tonight I couldn't resist calling this lady out. As she walked by I apologized for pulling out in front of her, but I also told her that her behavior was really immature, especially in front of my little boys. I thought maybe she would ignore me, maybe apologize back, but she didn't. Instead she told me, "You know what that was, that was you being really STUPID, and not paying attention."
I said no, it was just a simple mistake and I am sure you have made similar mistakes in your life. Apparently she hasn't and she also told me she would NEVER drive like that with small children in the car.
I just said back that I would never flip somebody off for making such a simple mistake. (Can I just throw in here one more time that I just turned the corner and she was coming towards me, we were no where close to an accident or anything serious. I am so confused.)
Anyway, she responded to my last remark by telling me to f*** off. Are you kidding? We parted ways after that, but ended up running into each other again at which point she called me a bad mother.
She obviously had a really bad day. I have never met anyone so bitter and ornery in my life. I hope I never cross her again. I am still so shocked and upset by her behavior. I was probably out of line too, but she was WAY out of line.
Anyway, there is my rant for today. I do feel a little better.

Becca--Yes, everything I know about you tells me to be very surprised that you would actually confront this woman--what guts, I'm proud of you. My mom once forwarded me a video (staged, I think it was recorded from a TV show) of two menopausal women who get into a big parking lot brawl with their cars, each ramming into the other until both cars are totaled. If you need a "back story" as to why this woman's behavior was so bizarre (and at the very least, uncivilized), chalk it up to hormones. Otherwise, hang it in her ear, I think you're a great mom!
Oh my gosh, I am so glad you stood up for yourself and talked back to her. SO something I would do depending on the situation. I have sort of a short fuse, so I would have done the exact same thing as you. I can't believe she acted like that. Some people just blow me away, I can't believe she said those things and flipped you off with your boys with you. GEEZ!!
Oh my heck...first I was laughing then I was ticked! What a crazy lady! I mean people who get that mad driving seriously need help. It is not ok. I once had a lady follow me until I stopped just so she could scream and swear at me. And the thing that had happened, was totally her fault. Seriously they need medication or something.
Good for you! I have met quite a few people like that, unfortunately. When somebody is that mad at the world, there isn't a lot you can say to them except "Thank you so much for your kind and patient attitude. Have you been out of prison long?"
Way to go BECCA! That's cute that you said she must have had a bad day. I'm sure it's true. You didn't deserve it, and she just happened upon you when she had very tight nerves. I can't believe she kept digging herself in deeper and deeper inside the store though. How rude. Don't you wish she would just die? Oh no we don't! But do you know what we're gonna do with them? We're going to make them an EX-AM-PLE. (make square with fingers)
NO WAY!!! I can't believe that she did that! First she flips you off and then she tells you to f-off! I would have been tempted to go into the store and by a carton of eggs to "decorate" her car with:) You are one of the best moms that I know, and I'm glad that you stood up for yourself (and you did it so nicely, too:)
Wow Becca, I'm impressed. Not sure what I would do in that situation, but it sounded as though you kept your cool! I think you're right, though, there must be major issues in that lady's life... not worth a second thought IMO.
First of all, I'm sorry you had to go through that. I do admit that sometimes I act like the parking lot lady and say mean things about other drivers but if someone apologized to me like you did I would at least be nice to you. And kudos to you, because I don't know of anyone who would actually admit their mistake to a stranger. Your children will follow your good example. Great jorb!!!
I think blogs are a good way to vent and feel better because you see all the friends and family you have that are on your side and support you. Ever since you told me that story I have been wondering what kind of mother SHE was. If I ever become that hormonal I want you to remind me of this story.
wow. i am speechless. i am so glad you said something to her...i know my words would have been less polite, you definently took the higher road. of all people to call a bad mom...she obviously had no clue what she was talking about!
Wow...there are some really ornery people out there. I had an experience with a lady at Target once. When we see each other again, remind me to tell you about it.
