Well, we did it! I was so nervous for the big switch to the big boy bed, but Ty did GREAT!! We had it set up in his room for about a week before we actually had him sleep in it. I think that got him used to it. I really wanted to get him comfortable with his new bed before the baby comes so that he doesn't feel like Cody is kicking him out. I think it has worked! So far so good. His first night sleeping in his bed he got up one time and started knocking on the door. I had to go in and tell him that he isn't supposed to get out of bed, and he needs to go to sleep. He whined and talked to himself for about an hour and a half that night before he finally fell asleep. He never really cried, just talked a lot. I didn't hear a peep from him the rest of the night and when he woke up in the morning I told him what a good boy he is. He was so excited and pleased with himself. Now I was nervous about the nap. I put him down that afternoon, and he went right to sleep and slept for 3 hours! He did great! He hasn't climbed out of his bed once since that first night! We have given him lots of praise all along the way. The switch wasn't anything like I had anticipated. He is such a good boy! He has actually been sleeping in his bed for about a month now, so I am a little late getting this posted.
When RC Willey first delivered his bed, Ty was so excited. He wanted to watch them put it together the whole time. When they finally left, Ty got a bunch of his books and put them on his bed. It was pretty cute.
Here is Ty in his bed with two of his favorite things. His horsey "Ty", and his blanket. He really does like his bed a lot. Every afternoon after he eats lunch he tells me "nap". And then he puts his head on his shoulder and says "sleep". I don't get it. I thought kids hated naps. I am glad he looks forward to his. It is a much needed break in the day!
